- The network Polkadot, founded by Gavin Wood, is a next-generation blockchain protocol connecting multiple specialized blockchains into one unified network.
- Designed as part of a broad vision for a web that returns control to individuals over internet monopolies, Polkadot builds on the revolutionary promise of previous blockchain networks while offering several fundamental advantages.
- Polkadot is connected with the Web3 Foundation and want to solve the scalability problem that a lot of blockchains have at the moment. Polkadot uses shared chains that are connected to the Polkadot ecosystem. You can call these shared chains also “parachains” because they run on the network in parallel.

What is Kusama?
- Kusama is the Testnet of Polkadot. Kusama will serve as a proving ground, allowing teams and developers to build and deploy parachains or try out Polkadot’s governance, staking, nomination and validation functionality in a real environment. New projects deploy first on Kusama and then on Polkadot.

- Polkadot and Kusama are two strong projects and a big ecosystem. This ecosystem is evolving in 2021, although there are some delays on the roadmaps of some Kusama and Polkadot projects. Before you deploy on testnet and mainnet you need to participate in auctions and therefore the ecosystem is growing step by step.
- Polkadot is solving the scaling solution in its own way with parachains. Polkadot uses a sharded multichain network, meaning it can process many transactions on several chains in parallel, eliminating the bottlenecks that occurred on legacy networks that processed transactions one-by-one. This approach of parallel processing power significantly improves scalability and creates the right conditions for increased adoption and future growth.
